You can use Coinwink service for free to receive SMS crypto currency price alerts.
You need to provide your own API details for this service to work. You can get these API details when you register on Nexmo, they also provide a free 2$ credit. (As an alternative to Nexmo, Plivo or Twilio setup will be available soon).
For many countries only the two API keys are required. Open Coinwink settings, fill in API key and API secret from your Nexmo account and you are good to go.
For many countries this setup is enough and you can start receiving your SMS alerts. First create a test alert, e.g. when btc is above 10 usd. Enter your number in an international standard (like this: +14155552671 - more details on formatting can be found here). Now you should receive your alert within the next 5 minutes. If you haven’t received it, then go to Coinwink’s ‘Manage alerts’ section and see if your alert was sent. All sent alerts are indicated with a strikethrough. If your alert was sent, but you have not received it, then the solution for the USA is provided below. For other countries, please do your own research here and post your findings in the comments or email them to me, so that we can update this tutorial for more countries.
To be able to receive SMS alerts in the USA, you need to rent a virtual pre-approved phone nr. This is a country specific restriction and has nothing to do with Coinwink or Nexmo. The phone number’s monthly cost is around 0.80 USD.
To do this, open your Nexmo account, on the top menu click Numbers and then Buy numbers. From the dropdown list select United States (+1), for features select SMS, for type select Mobile, you can also enter some preferred digits, then pick a number and click Buy. You will then be able to see the newly bought number under Your numbers. Add this number to your Coinwink settings and click Save.
We have tested this before and this solution is working fine for the USA. So as soon as you configure your settings as described above, your Coinwink SMS alerts will start working. Good luck with your crypto trading!
